WordCamp New York City 2009

November 14–15, 2009
...was awesome!

Say What? 59 Saturday Sessions to Choose From!*

The awesome speakers list wasn’t enough to convince you to attend WordCamp NYC? No problem: here’s the preliminary list of Saturday sessions, 59 of them and counting. There also are a handful still in the process of being determined, and these will be added to the list as soon as they are confirmed. Remember, with 8 tracks of content — Newbie, Blogger, CMS/App, Beginner Dev, Advanced Dev, BuddyPress/MU, Academic, Open Source Community — there’s something for everyone.

Right now the list is mostly just a list, but descriptions of each session will be added as the speakers write them.

We’ll create a place to discuss potential unconference sessions (to fill in the programming gaps) here on the site a little closer to the event.

What session are you most excited to see? Post in the comments!

*Yes, I know I shouldn’t have ended the title with a preposition, but that what I wanted to say.

I’m most interested in hearing or seeing the topic of Open Source community. I think this is one of the biggest problems WordPress faces right now is the huge mess that is the community. Things are here, things are there, it’s pretty disjointed. I’m looking forward to hearing what ideas people have to help WordPress leverage the community more to transfer all the disjointed work and effort into a centralized place for the better of the project.

  2. I don’t understand how you pay for your ticket ????

The form says “coupon number.” What does that mean?

If I fill in my mailing address and phone number, will you just bill me? Or how does it work?

    Thank you.

    Ellen

Ignore the coupon, that is just for speakers and volunteers. After you fill in your info and click submit, you will be taken to PayPal to pay for the ticket.

    Hello Jane!

Remind me, we are allowed to “jump the tracks” right? We’re not duct taped to our chairs in the first session?

I think I originally ticked “Blogger” track but I’m now feeling my site needs to go more CMS. However, there were a couple of blogger sessions I’m interested in too.

Looks like this will be the best WordCamp ever!

Hi Robbin. The only track that has to stay “on track” (so to speak) is the Newbie track, because the first part of it is a workshop. Everyone else can wander between tracks if they choose, space permitting. We’ll assign rooms (which vary in size) based on the tracks people choose, but there won’t be a list or anything to get into each session.

Newbies will have a morning workshop which they must stay with, and then they will choose from other track sessions in the afternoon. I’ll send an email to all registered attendees a few days before the event with various logistical details, and at that time will also allow anyone who has registered for the Newbie track to change out if they’ve decided they don’t want to do the workshop.
